ICDC conference to be held in Tallinn, Estonia

2005-10-05 / Roisin Joyce

An ICDC conference entitled “Towards Democracy in Cuba” will be held in Tallinn, Estonia, on the 13th and 14th October 2005. The conference is being prepared in close co-operation with Mart Laar, former prime minister of Estonia and member of the ICDC.

The conference is one of many events following the ICDC Summit in Prague in September 2004. The event shall be centered around three key areas: providing information about the violation of human rights in Cuba; creating international pressure on Castro’s regime and the possible sharing of transition experiences from the countries of the former Soviet bloc. Invitees include parliamentarians from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden and Poland and representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of these states. The exhibition “It is our problem too: the Women of the Cuban Spring”, a series of twenty-three photos that document the lives of the women left behind after the 2003 crackdown, shall also be presented at the conference.
