What is Global Development Education

Global development education is whole-life educational process, which:

Global development education (GDE) prepares for life in the connected, quickly changing world nowadays. GDE tries to lead students towards the understanding of basic problems in a current world, to encourage them to have their own opinions on these problems and to develop their abilities when taking part in their solutions. The goals of GDE can be formulated in areas of specific competences of participants in educational process, in areas of knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The receivers of educational process (pupils, students, seminar participants):
  • know the reasons and consequences of the most important global problems, they know, what helps and what stops the tenability of human development.
  • compare different understandings of concepts – development, human rights, globalization.
  • understand situations of people living in difficult conditions, they know the reasons and consequences of these situations
  • are aware of differences in economical and social situations of people in the world, they have different views on reasons and consequences of this situation
  • understand the mutual dependence and connection with other areas of the world and other dimension of the development
  • know the main participants of the development cooperation and they know about their chances when actively taking part in development on local as well as global level
  • understand why and which way is the development cooperation implemented
  • use democratic tools when being part of public life.
  • are able to identify the problem, analyze it and to look for different solutions, to chose the most adequate solution and to rely on their own experiences as well as on experiences of others
  • are able to recognize their abilities and to find options how to use these abilities when solving the problem.
  • can effectively cooperate with other people
  • based on their information they are capable of having their own opinion and to present their arguments
  • can accept opinion of others and to correct their actual opinion if needed.
  • are capable of using the empathy when recognizing the situation of others
  • are able to think systematically and to look for chain of events
  • accept responsibility for themselves and for the world they live in.
  • are motivated towards actively taking part in solving the local problems and towards the contribution for solving problems on regional, national as well as international levels, also within the situations which do not bring them direct advantages
  • are aware of advantages coming from the cooperation with other people
  • respect different opinions and views on the world
  • feel solidarity towards the people living in difficult conditions
