OAS Partakes in Historic Meeting with the ICDC

Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Jose Miguel Insulza, secretary general for the Organization of American States met with former Latin American and European presidents who are members of the International Committee for Democracy in Cuba (ICDC).

Luis Alberto Lacalle, former president of Uruguay, Luis Alberto Monge, former president of Costa Rica, and Mart Laar, former prime minister of Estonia met with Insulza, to whom they presented the details of the international efforts of the ICDC. Czech Jaromir Stetina senator gave Secretary General Insulza a message from former president Vaclav Havel asking for solidarity with the dissidents in the island.
Orlando Gutierrez Boronat, national secretary of the Cuban Democratic Directorate, gave Insulza a copy of the book Boitel Vive, written by political prisoner Jorge Luis Garcia Perez, Antunez.
Also present in the meeting were diverse representatives of the Latin-American civil society, which support democracy in Cuba such as: the Czech organization People in Need, Rene Bolio and Fernando Ponce of Promotora Internacional de Derechos Humanos, Gabriel Salvia of the Center for the Opening and Development of Latin America (CADAL), Hipolito Ramirez of the Patriotic Dominican Youth and Alvaro Dubon member of the Central American Parliament.
