ICDC Meeting with Ladies in White at the European Parliament

Several ICDC members met with Blanca Reyes, representative of the Ladies in White movement (Damas de Blanco) on the occasion of the Sakharov prize ceremony at the European Parliament on 14th December.
The movement of mothers and wives of Cuban political prisoners imprisoned in spring 2003 was awarded the Sakharov prize for their efforts to force the regime of Fidel Castro to release its political prisoners. Among the present ICDC members there was Edward McMillan-Scott, Cecilia Malmström, Vytautas Landsbergis and José Ribeiro e Castro. They all expressed their discontent with the fact that the Cuban regime did not allow the delegation of five women from the movement to come to Strasbourg . Blanca Reyes, the representative of the movement living in exile, therefore attended the ceremony. ICDC members talked with her about the ICDC activities and gave her a letter by Vaclav Havel congratulating to the movement for their efforts.
