Castro’s regime criticized before the UN
2006-10-30 / Pauline Boyer
The second session of the United Nations Human Rigths Council, held in Geneva between September 18th and October 6th, has, for various NGOs, been an opportunity to condemn the government.
“Despite strong pressure from the Cuban regime, here in Geneva, to prevent critical NGOs from participating in the event, we’ve been able to speak and denounce the horrors committed in Cuba against human rights activists and political prisoners” said member of the Cuban Democratic Directorate John Suárez. Dissident Osvaldo Alfonso Valdés added that “a country that hides the truth and passes over crimes must not be a part of this Human Rights Council”.
