Mission Statement

People in Need's educational program Variant is focused on implementing principles of intercultural (IE) and global development education (GDE) into the Czech educational system. The current curriculum requires that these topics be present in classes and lessons, however, they are not yet represented well enough. In fact, IE and GDE topics exceed the field of school education and are viewed as crucial and interesting for professionals in many other areas.

The Variants program provides vocational training not only for teachers, students of pedagogy and educational professionals, but also to other professional groups and those interested in IE and GDE. The educational activities performed under the Variants program caters to the needs of employees in public administration, Labor Offices, children's homes and reformatories, asylum and refugee camps, school inspectors, policemen and journalists.

The IE and GDE topics are enriched by the experience and knowledge of experts from other projects and activities of People in Need, especially our field social workers and coordinators of our development and humanitarian projects abroad. The Variants program also participates in other projects for People in Need such as Polis, One World in Schools, conducting sociological research, preparing a book of memories of Roma holocaust survivors, and partnering in projects with other organizations.

The Variants program functions through classical attendance educational courses or in the form of a newly developed e-learning course (www.evarianty.cz). The e-learning course allows those who could not attend the regular seminars due to time and spatial restraints, to participate. The form and content of Variants activities is adapted to the needs of target groups; however, this flexibility never compromises the quality of the activity.

All products of the Variants program are available for download on the program webpage. Here you may download textbooks, methodology materials and manuals, working lists and other products from the program for usage in classes and the educational process. The webpage is regularly updated and serves as a space for exchanging experiences and ideas and provides the Variants team with important feedback on our activities.
